The Augsburg Congregation is a very active, mostly rural, congregation situated at Commondale, Mpumalanga and consists of mainly German speaking members. In recent years a number of Afrikaans speaking members have joined the congregation. The congregation was founded on 17 November 1923 after various members of the Lüneburg and Braunschweig congregations, who had established themselves as farmers in the area, had joined hands to establish the congregation. Services are conducted mainly in German, but Afrikaans features more and more, especially in regard to baptisms, weddings and funerals. Afrikaans services are celebrated every quarter, and a short summary of the German sermon is given every Sunday in Afrikaans. Children’s Church is celebrated every Sunday, except during school holidays. The brass band, the choir and various home groups are very active in the congregation.
