The Markus Congregation has its origins as a traditional German congregation. Afrikaans has been introduced to meet the changing demographics over the years. Currently most services are prepared so that both German and Afrikaans speaking congregants can partake in the service. A projector is used to show songs, readings and the liturgy in bilingual form. Twice a month the sermon is held in German with a written translation available in Afrikaans. The remaining two Sundays the sermon is held in Afrikaans. Young and old congregants are encouraged to partake in the services, using their gifts to praise our Lord. On Sundays, children aged 3-11 years, are able to attend Sunday school. Confirmation classes are currently incorporated into the Bible classes held 3 times a week at Wittenberg Schule. On Tuesdays there is a youth gathering where high school scholars from various congregations in the area, attend. There is a small Kindergarten on the church property called Spatzen, which is a feeder school for Wittenberg Schule. Weekly Bible Studies, Brass Band and Choir Practices are also held. We annually have a Bazaar and various other functions to raise funds, but most importantly to nurture and encourage fellowship amongst congregants and the community. Markus Congregation is a place for you to worship, pray, hear and live the Word of God with us!
